We sang these songs one fall at a party for four teachers who hadn't come back to work after summer vacation.

TO – "ON TOP OF OLD SMOKEY"

We’re back here at Dearborne.
The summer took flight.
Tho’ all looks familiar
Still something ain’t right.

Our students returned and
The school’s full again.
So what are we missing?
We’re missing our friends.

TO – "CLEMENTINE"

Oh, my goodness! Oh, my gracious!
We’ve lost Tom to the High School.
We will be without his presence
And that really isn’t cool.

We will miss his cheery greetings,
And I do say we are loath
To keep going without insight
On the subject, "Human Growth".

TO – "BUFFALO GALS"

Dear Connie, please, won’t you
Come back to work?
Wipe off that smirk!
Duties you shirk!
Dear Connie, please, won’t you
Come back to work
And teach the third grade until June?

TO – LONG, LONG AGO

Mary’s commute was a drag every day,
Long way to go, long way to go,
So for convenience she moved far away.
We’ll miss her so, miss her so.

TO – SKIP TO MY LOU

Katie had students, students galore!
Thousands of students came through her door.
What do you reckon she went and left for?
Katie had lots of students.

Come back, Katie come back.
Dearborne’s feeling your lack.
You are an ace cracker jack
At dealing with lots of students.

TO – DOWN IN THE VALLEY

We’re feeling gloomy
And we’re rather low
Because our dear comrades
Have felt they must go.

Felt they should leave and
Dared to depart.
But yet they’ll forever
Remain in our hearts.
