I read this poem aloud at retirement party for a friend and "lunch buddy".
It is with a great regret
That I must bid adieu
To a valued member of
Our Dearborne teaching crew.
Jane provided lots of fun
And lunchtime recreation
Telling tales and stories of
Her fabulous vacations.
Yet even though she liked to go
And travel far and near,
She has great dedication to
The job she holds so dear.
Planning, teaching, guiding -
With accomplishments she glows,
(And I especially like it when
She helps with all my shows!)
And so, friend Jane, you will be missed
In very many ways,
Who shall I converse with in
The middle of the day?
But what disturbs me most of all,
As you depart our number,
Is that I’ll never taste again
Your sandwich of cucumber!
